Introduction

The very definition of ‘Wild Bush Luxury’, Bamurru Plains is a unique collaboration between exceptional accommodation and service, and the surrounding natural environment. Situated on the edge of the Mary River floodplains, Bamurru lies at the heart of a remarkable ecosystem, home to an extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna.

Bamurru Plains is located on Swim Creek Station, a 303 sq km working cattle station near Point Stuart, in the Mary River region. The property encompasses a variety of habitat including vast river frontage, coastal floodplains, savannah woodland and paperbark swamps.

Bamurru’s 10 safari-style tented bungalows lie scattered amongst pandanus vegetation on the edge of the wetlands. Carefully designed to maximise the spectacular views across the floodplain, the bungalows feature one-way mesh walls to allow you to see out whilst retaining full privacy. Each has an ensuite bathroom and ceiling fans. There are no televisions, CD players, mini-bars, telephones or internet access to distract you; here you are truly immersed in the Australian outback with an endless display of wildlife and changing landscapes around you. From the comfort of your bed enjoy the sunrise and watch the plains come alive with water buffalo, wallabies and a variety of birdlife.

The open plan main lodge building features a lounge area, library, self-service bar and dining room with open kitchen. Communal dining hosted by lodge guides enables you to get to know fellow-guests and guides alike over a hearty breakfast or gourmet dinner. Out on the front deck the infinity pool offers a cool spot for daytime relaxing, with uninterrupted views over the floodplain, whilst your day ends under the stars around the campfire.

Bamurru’s guides are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the area; their experiences and stories are a key part of your stay. A variety of guided activities are on offer, some at extra cost, including airboat tours, bird and wildlife watching, river cruises in search of estuarine crocodiles, 4WD safaris, helicopter flights, fishing trips and an introduction to Aboriginal culture in Arnhem Land and Kakadu National Park.

The property is located 10 kms from Kakadu National Park’s western boundary (100kms from Jabiru in Kakadu) and just over 100 kms east of Darwin. It is possible to drive to the station gate, where you will be met and transferred to Bamurru, but much of the Point Stuart Road is unsealed so most guests choose to fly in from Darwin.
