Coal Miners’ Cabins, Longyearbyen

Introduction

The Coal Miner’s Cabins offer a simpler, yet great value accommodation option with a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic shared facilities including the Coal Miner’s Bar & Grill.

Some of the historic buildings used to house the miners after the second world war have been comfortably restored to become the Coal Miners’ Cabins. The three different buildings have 76 rooms in total, divided into single and double rooms on two floors. Each has a communal kitchen, lounge room and laundry facilities. Each floor has separate bathrooms shared between the rooms. There are four different room types to choose from. The Liggen is the standard room. The Strossa room is slightly larger, the Foremannsmessa rooms have a wash basin and finally the Suite offers its own bathroom with shower and toilet, twin or double beds, and a separate room with bunk or sofa bed. All rooms include bathrobes.

The breakfast buffet is served at the Bar & Grill building, which was renovated in 2015. The relaxed setting is also the perfect place to unwind in the evening with a drink and meal from the menu.
