Introduction

Hohenstein Lodge is located at the bottom of the Hohenstein, the highest peak of the Erongo Mountains and boasts stunning views over the surrounding landscapes.

In the evening, spectacular sunsets above the desert plain bathe the Hohenstein in a fantastic red light. Towards the west, the view extends as far as the Spitzkoppe peak, protruding as a prominent relief from the plain. Take a seat on the terrace, sip a cool drink and enjoy the view. You can also sit by the bird watching hide which attracts numerous birds.

Accommodation is in 14 spacious rooms, including two family suites, each with a private shaded terrace to relax on and enjoy the views.

Activities include guided and self-guided hikes and scenic drives. For those staying two nights, it is possible to spend one night at the Etemba Wilderness Camp.

Nature drives
Morning and sundowner nature drives are available to experience the spectacular scenery this area has to offer. You may also see animals such as springbok, oryx and baboon.

Walks – guided or self-guided
There are several walks possible from Hohenstein Lodge, ranging from one to four hours in duration. The walks include the giant granite rocks of the Boulder Forest and are on well-maintained trails through dry riverbeds, past ancient camel thorn trees and bizarre granite structures. On the trails you are likely to spot springbok, oryx, red Hartebeest and baboons whilst enjoying the spectacular landscape. Walks can be done self-guided or accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, who will provide detailed information on flora and fauna.

Mineral miners tour
On this half day tour, you are either taken by Land Rover to the foot of the mountain or you can decide to walk there. From here, you walk up the gorge to the Boulder Forest and ascend to the basecamp of the ’small miners‘ where you are offered an insight into their life‘. Semi-precious stones like tourmaline and aquamarine are mined here. On the decent the spectacular views provides amazing photographic opportunities. This excursion includes lunch.
