Peace and Plenty Inn, Devonport

Introduction

This beautifully restored 7-room villa sits in the heart of historic Devonport on Auckland’s North Shore.

Dating back to around 1880, this charming Victorian B&B is full of character with individually decorated guest rooms, some with antique pine beds, claw-foot bath tub or private balcony. Every room has an ensuite bathroom, tea and coffee-making facilities and free Wi-Fi.

A gourmet breakfast is included daily, served either in the spacious sunny dining room overlooking palms, frangipani and hibiscus blooms, or outside on the veranda. The cosy guest lounge is the ideal place to relax at the end of the day, swapping stories with other guests or simply curling up with a good book by the fire.

Peace and Plenty is just a short walk from the friendly restaurants, cafés and bars of Devonport and a 5-minute walk to the ferry terminal. Fishing, kayaking, forest tours and Maori cultural tours can all be taken nearby, but don’t forget to allow time to explore Devonport itself – this historic maritime village was one of New Zealand’s first settlements.

Rooms

The largest king-size room is the Windsor. It has a veranda style Victorian bathroom with stain-glass window and claw foot bath. The deep pink colour scheme is off set by bronze silk and the ornate cast iron fireplace and antique pine furnishing complete the look of the grandest room in the house. This room is also suitable for small family as it has a Victorian daybed for the little ones.

The Albert is a king-size willow blue room complemented by silver furnishings and boasts the largest bathroom of the house with claw foot bath and separate shower. The white iron bedstead with crowned organza is the central feature of the room and there is a beautiful traditional cast iron fireplace.

For those who love the European romantic look the Devonport king-size room is a must. It has a beautiful French provincial bed together with a matching French armoire and chest of drawers, complimented by gold satin and cream organza. It has views over the Windsor Park and ‘Albert’, Devonport’s historic Moreton Bay Fig Tree that proudly stands tall over the village library roof.

The Garden room has its own private courtyard and entry, separate from the main house. It has an antique Baltic pine super-king/twin bed with deep gold and cream furnishings. Enjoy the sub-tropical garden with its collection of palms and bromeliads and listen to the water trailing down the rock pools. This super-king/twin bed French provincial blue & cream Flagstaff room is ideal for travelling companions, children or single guests. It has views over to the beach and harbour especially beautiful in summertime when the Pohutukawa trees display their fluffy red blooms for Christmas. The en suite bathroom is nautical in design complete with porthole window.

The Waitemata and Victoria rooms are equally romantic and peaceful in style and have an abundance of charm, from their antique travel trunks to their French antique bed and brass bedsteads respectively. Kauri French doors lead on to private balconies which enjoy all day sunshine. These sister rooms have unhindered views of Mount Victoria and the roof tops of Devonport, the Waitemata views extend to the Harbour, Bridge & City. Their individual bathrooms have pretty clay tiled floors and great showers.
