Ruckomechi, Mana Pools National Park

Introduction

Overlooking the mighty Zambezi River and the mountains of the Rift Valley escarpment, Ruckomechi offers a remote escape like no other.

This remote and beautiful setting on the banks of the Zambezi lies in a private concession in the heart of Mana Pools National Park. The camp features 10 spacious and beautifully decorated en-suite tents, including two family rooms, as well as a pool, firepit, secluded Star Bed and an outdoor ‘bath with a view’. Its riverside location allows for exploration by boat and canoe, as well as game drives and walking safaris. Sundowners overlooking the water are a must!

Ruckomechi is surrounded by ana trees, popular with the local elephants for their nutritious seeds. Wildlife can often be seen taking advantage of the camp’s waterhole, and the area is known for large concentrations of buffalo and elephant. Predators such including lion, wild dog, leopard and cheetah are also regularly spotted. On the surrounding plains you may encounter greater kudu, Burchell’s zebra, impala, warthog and common waterbuck, whilst the grunting of hippo can be heard from the river all day. Birdlife is superb, with numerous local specials such as collared palm-thrush and racket-tailed roller.
