Say yes to adventure
with Anita Rani

Overview

2025 is the year to say yes to adventure. That’s what Anita Rani is doing as she joins us for three incredible journeys this year to Iceland, the Arctic and Costa Rica.

Well known to BBC Countryfile viewers, Anita is an award-winning broadcaster. She presents Womans Hour on BBC Radio 4 and is also a bestselling author having published her memoir, The Right Sort of Girl, in 2015 followed by her first novel in 2023.

Anita was made a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Goodwill Ambassador in 2021.

At Discover the World, we’ve been passionately shaking up the travel world since 1984. Pioneering experiences across the globe that take you to the heart of each destination, our itineraries are created by travellers for travellers. We’ll thrilled to be collaborating with Anita in her year of saying yes, starting with an action-packed trip to Iceland this winter.

Anita Rani x Discover the World

“Discover the World and my own values are very closely aligned which is why I was so delighted to accept this opportunity to  travel to some incredible destinations and really push myself to ‘say yes to adventure’.

I will be straying far away from any sun lounger in order to experience the raw power of nature in many different forms, from volcanic landscapes, glacial lagoons, towering waterfalls and lush rainforests.

I’m also delighted to spread the word about Discover the World’s Education Bursary Fund which is supported by the holidays arm of the business and how it pays, in full, for at least 30 disadvantaged students each year who otherwise wouldn’t have otherwise had the opportunity to travel, to join one of their school trips abroad.

First stop Iceland, which is fitting as this as the first destination they offered when the company launched over 40 years ago. I can’t wait to share this with you all.”

Follow in Anita’s footsteps

“I first visited Iceland 23 years ago for a music festival and was desperate to get back there. And when I did it was everything I remember it being and more. The landscape is unlike anywhere else. Otherworldly, dramatic and breathtakingly beautiful.  The people are wonderful, friendly with a very good sense of humour (very dry). They have a respect and pride in their landscape, but it’s so alive they can’t ignore it. As the recent volcanic eruptions have shown.  Now is an incredible time to travel and see at close hand the recent activity, and you might even be lucky enough to witness some live action! Or even an Arctic fox, like I did. I’m already planning my return”.

Upon arrival into Keflavik Airport, collect your rental vehicle and head east through the Reykjanes Peninsula and the outskirts of Reykjavik towards Hotel Ranga for a two-night stay in the heart of the Icelandic countryside.

Hotel Ranga

A proud member of Small Luxury Hotels, Ranga blends four-star comfort with fine dining in the heart of South Iceland. Why not stay somewhere as extraordinary as your surroundings? Choose from a collection of globally inspired suites, each one themed after a different continent, from Antarctica to Asia, Australia to Africa, plus Icelandic and Royal suites for a local touch.

The restaurant serves up a seasonal, Nordic-inspired menu with a modern twist, blending the best local ingredients with a dash of French and Italian flair. By night, soak in an outdoor hot tub while gazing at the northern lights. There’s even a wake-up service, so you’ll not miss out should they occur after bedtime. By day, explore the volcanic landscapes of rural Iceland. A stay like no other.

Hotel Ranga, near Hella

Around an hour and a half's drive from Reykjavik, this cosy riverside lodge offers four-star comfort and fine dining in the volcanic heart of rural Iceland.

Head out from the hotel on a Superjeep tour to Katla Ice Cave. Superjeeps are an Icelandic obsession – customised 4WD vehicles that can go almost anyway. The perfect way to explore Iceland’s rugged terrain, your driver guide will put the vehicle through its paces on route to the ice cave.

After breakfast at Hotel Ranga, drive back west towards Thingvellir National Park one of a trio of famed sites along the Golden Circle route. You may choose to detour via Geysir hot spring area and the spectacular two-tiered waterfall, Gullfoss. Thingvellir is the site of the world’s oldest parliament formed by the Vikings in AD 874. It is also where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet and it is within this fissure that you can don a dry suit and snorkel between the plates – a truly extraordinary experience. Silfra offers up to 100 meters of underwater visibility and is regularly rated among the world’s top dive sites.

Back on dry land, continue your journey north to the southern shore of Hvalfjordur and your stunning accommodation at Hvammsvik Nature Resort and Hot Springs. Overnight in the Club House, a beautifully renovated self-catering farmhouse with its own private hot tub.

Hvammsvik Villas

Secluded luxury on the shores of Hvalfjordur. Each house at Hvammsvik Nature Resort blends sleek, modern design with the rustic charm of its original structure. Set within a 1,200-acre family estate, this tranquil retreat overlooks a historic and remote fjord in southwest Iceland, offering breathtaking views of the water and dramatic mountain backdrops. Ideally located near many of Iceland’s most iconic sights, the resort is also home to natural geothermal pools, just a short stroll away. Sink into mineral-rich waters, breathe in the fresh coastal air, and experience true Icelandic serenity. Secluded, stylish, and deeply restorative, this is Iceland at its most peaceful.

Hvammsvik Nature Resort

These four private houses offer secluded luxury on the edge of Hvalfjordur in south west Iceland combing modern living with authentic charm.

Spend some time exploring the area or set off to Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik along Hvalfjordur. Once in Reykjavik, you might choose to take a helicopter flight over the volcanic landscapes of the Reykjanes Peninsula, perhaps even witnessing a live eruption.

Enjoy an early evening bathe in the geothermal waters of the Sky Lagoon with its spectacular 70-metre infinity edge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Return to the city for a night on the town and an overnight stay.

Drive the short distance to Keflavik airport to drop off your rental vehicle and board your flight home.
