“The Greenland expedition was the real game-changer. Not a cruise – think of it more as a five-star safari on sea. The ship was extraordinary with only 140 passengers. The food was exquisite, my cabin was like a floating five-star hotel, and that sauna. It has the best view of any sauna on the planet, with a different perspective every day.”.

Voyaging aboard the stunning Ultramarine – a 199-passenger, deluxe expedition ship – set sail from Reykjavik, Iceland.

This floating luxury hotel is purpose-built for expedition cruising in Polar waters with 1A+/PC6 ice class. Cabins offer exceptional comfort ranging from the triples and twins with ocean views to balcony cabins and luxurious suites.

The two-onboard helicopters are a stand-out feature, offering incredible aerial exploration of remote locations and complement the Zodiac cruises. Life onboard is informal and intimate, blending lounges, bars, restaurants and wellness facilities with quiet areas. Onboard lectures enrich your adventure, while the observation lounge and deck space are places for the ‘wow’ moments.

The Ultramarine also offers a great choice of optional adventure activities including kayaking and paddle boarding.

Cross the Denmark Strait towards the south east shores of Greenland. Join the onboard lectures delving into the history, ecology and nature of this incredible region. Relax onboard and keep watch for seabirds and whales.

The first view of Greenland’s rugged coast will take your breath away. Each day will be determined by weather and ice conditions, but one of the planned highlights is visiting Lindenow Fjord. Explore by a combination of heli-landings, hiking, paddle excursions, Zodiac cruises, and shore landings.

Steeped in Norse heritage, this is one of the most verdant parts of Greenland with farming communities along the shores. Access to the island’s vast ice sheet provides a stunning contrast to the surprisingly fertile valleys and fields of the Kujataa UNESCO World Heritage, which recognises the Norse and Inuit farming traditions.

Visit the small settlement of Qassiarsuk, as well as the remains of Erik the Red’s estate of Brattahlíð. Experience a helicopter flight over the Greenland Ice Sheet with a chance to stand on this vast body of ice.

Head south transiting the scenic 105-kilometer-long Prins Christian Sund aiming to visit Aappilattoq, perched on the shores. Steep-walled Tasermiut Fjord is another highlight as well as reaching the islets and skerries around the Cape Farewell, the southern tip.

Return across the Denmark Strait sharing memories with your fellow passengers.

The journey ends back in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik. Perhaps add on a few nights in the city or at a countryside property. Or like Anita, head to the airport via way of the world-famous Blue Lagoon.
