The Icehotel is literally breathtaking. With an ingenious mix of snow and ice, plenty of engineering know-how and supreme design flair, the hotel is created each winter, then left to melt back into the river Torne in late April, with no two designs ever the same.

Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or week-long break, here are just a few of our favourite ways to experience the Icehotel.

1. Spend the Night on a Bed of Ice

Experience a sense of magical, yet eerie silence as you rest your head on a hand-carved bed of ice at the Icehotel. From a thrilling night spent in a thermal sleeping bag on top of cosy reindeer hides, to waking up and heading out into the snowy wilderness on a husky ride; don’t forget to pack your thermals and tick off this bucket-list essential. Sleep on ice on our Icehotel Break.

2. Aurora Displays and Unique Stays

If seeking the northern lights is a must on your Swedish Lapland adventure, spending time in Abisko comes highly recommended. Brave the thrilling chairlift (pictured) to the top of the summit for mind blowing views and if you’re lucky – the aurora displays here are simply mesmerising. Spend a night at the Abisko Mountain Station before a stay at the Icehotel for an extraordinary aurora adventure. Experience Abisko and the Icehotel on Northern Lights, Abisko and Icehotel

3. Traditional Villages, Contemporary Structures and the Northern Lights

Tromso, commonly known as ‘the Paris of the North’ is home to the largest collection of charming historic wooden buildings in Northern Norway and makes for a quaint destination for a traditional Norwegian getaway. Combine a visit to this charismatic city with a stay in Abisko National Park and the Icehotel both in Swedish Lapland – and you can experience the best of both worlds with a good chance of catching the northern lights. Visit all three on our Tromso, Abisko & the Icehotel holiday.

From firey natural wonders to a frozen man-made structure – twin your Iceland experience with a visit to the world’s ‘coolest’ hotel – Swedish Lapland’s Icehotel on our Iceland and the Icehotel

5. Enchanting Winter Scenery

A great option for northern lights hunters, keen photographers and independent-minded travellers fusing a Swedish Lapland experience with the breathtaking Arctic islands of Lofoten in Norway is a great way to see the Arctic side of Scandinavia. Explore your surrounds, head out on a scenic rail journey or simply enjoy the peace and quiet that surrounds you. Discover Scandinavia’s Arctic side on our Icehotel, Abisko and Lofoten
