ICEHOTEL #30 Art Suites – Design Teasers
Over 126 unique entries and only 15 suites; the designs for the 2019/20 season’s Icehotel have been revealed! Featuring the largest ever group of artists from 34 different countries including two design teams from the UK, the 30th edition of this magical hotel is anticipated to be more extraordinary than ever before. Take a look at some of the design sketches below.
“It’s 30 years since the start of what later came to be the world-known ICEHOTEL. It’s a great honour to receive fantastic applications from creative people all over the world. I am really looking forward to welcoming the artist teams to Jukkasjärvi this winter and see their visions turn in to unique experiences for our guests.” – Luca Roncoroni, Creative Director at the Icehotel
From checking into a frozen West End theatre production and sleeping next to a submerged iceberg, to spending the night in a subterranean ice room with giant ice ants, settling down in a frozen feline lair, waking up surrounded by an ice-carved Kaleidoscope, enjoying the Greek island of Santorini as a backdrop and enjoying cocktails surrounded by frozen roller-coasters and carnival games in the Icebar, this year’s hotel will have an incredible range of rooms for guests to enjoy when it officially opens on 13th December 2019.
‘White Santorini’ Art Suite
Greece’s most romantic and popular island, White Santorini, comes to the snow-laden landscapes of Jukkasjärvi. This winter paradise will be brought to you by South Korean-American duo Hamee Han and Jaeyual Lee (Jaemeestudio).
‘A Night at the Theatre’ Art Suite
British father and daughter duo, Jonathan and Marni Green, are back again to take us to a Night at the Theatre. Get your Oscar speech ready!
This suite celebrates 30 years of Icehotel with an Icehotel-themed West End production, complete with ice-carved curtains, a stage with reindeers waiting in the wings and an impressive scale model of the hotel entrance in the centre of the room. A bed will be nested amongst miniature theatre seats in the auditorium and there will also be six life-size ice seats for guests to sit on behind.
‘Kaleidoscope’ Art Suite
From the creators of last year’s highly favoured Ceremony Hall, Natsuki and Shingo Saito will take symmetry and reflection to a whole new level with their “Kaleidoscope” Art Suite.
‘The Golden Ice’ Art Suite
Designed by French designer, Nicolas Triboulot and Australian Jean-Marie Guitera will bring glitz and glamour to the ICEHOTEL with The Golden Ice.
Ice Memories Exhibition and 360 Degree Viewing Platform
This season the hotel will be hosting a photography exhibition showcasing 30 years of ‘ice memories’ displaying the most memorable designs. In addition, guests will be able to enjoy a special ice-carved viewing platform built above the hotel, offering 360-degree views of the surrounding frozen landscape across the Torne River from which the ice is harvested.
The winter Icehotel opens on 13th December 2019.
