For summer 2016, travellers from the UK to Iceland can fly direct to East Iceland’s Egilsstadir Airport. Exclusive to Discover the World, it is the very first time that a flight has been offered between the two locations, offering easy and convenient access to one of Iceland’s most spectacular and lesser visited regions. In under 3 hours, visitors will be transported to the dramatic landscapes, charming villages and unique culture of the North and Eastern Fjordlands.

Situated in the heart of the remote countryside, Egilsstadir offers a gateway to the region’s spectacular attractions, including Seydisfjordur, Myvatn, Dettifoss and so much more – all accessible in less than 2 hours. Heading south, Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier and Jokulsarlon, the stunning glacial lagoon await.

The flight is being launched in response to the growing popularity in recent years of this mid- Atlantic island as a holiday destination. Popular for self-drives, Iceland is easily explored by car for those wanting to travel independently. Our new holidays to the region will also include a number of small group guided tours, for those seeking an expertly guided experience of the area. In addition our Education team can arrange bespoke trips for school and university groups.

Operating on Saturdays and Wednesday’s in July and August 2016, these new flights work in conjunction with a brand new collection of itineraries designed to for the summer.

At a Glance

  • Exclusive to Discover the World in the UK
  • Twice-weekly flights from London Gatwick to Egilsstadir Airport (Jul-Aug ’16)
