Alaska Self Drive Holidays

An Alaska self drive is the perfect option if you wish to explore independently at your own pace. An excellent network of roads links the cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks to scenic highlights such as the wildlife-rich Kenai Peninsula, picturesque Valdez and spectacular Denali National Park.

A self drive gives you the flexibility to stop along the way to take in magnificent views, delve into local history and uncover hidden gems as well as enjoy optional excursions. Why not stop and explore the quirky hamlet of Talkeetna; relax in the Chena Hot Springs; watch sea otters playing in the surf of Gull Island, Homer; or take an unforgettable scenic flight to Denali’s (formerly Mt McKinley) summit.

Alaska boasts some truly memorable drives to experience such as; the Richardson Highway, renowned for its breathtaking scenery; the legendary Alaska Highway, passing right through Canada’s Yukon and on to mile zero’ in British Columbia; and the aptly-named Top of the World Highway from Canada into Alaska.

The best time to visit is mid-May to mid-September – the long days under the glow of the midnight sun at the height of summer giving you plenty of time to drive around exploring. Travel by car or by motorhome, soak up the scenery and don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for wayward moose or other wildlife!
