Lofthellir Lava Cave has some of the greatest natural ice sculptures currently known in an Icelandic lava cave.
Drive to Lake Myvatn before travelling along the unique volcano Hverfell, through the crater row of Ludentarborgir to the foot of Mt. Hvannfell.
After a 20-minute walk across a lava field, adorned by endless ropey lava, you arrive at the Lofthellir Lava Cave. At least one hour is spent inside the cave, observing this unbelievable natural phenomenon.
Make a short stop in the village of Reykjahlid by Lake Myvatn before returning to Akureyri.
