Visit the highlights of these two neighbouring German style cities.
Start out from Puerto Varas with a visit to Puerto Montt, the region’s capital which faces the Seno de Reloncavi and has a bay on its western flank protected by Tenglo Island. Due to its strategic location, it’s the main hub for travel to the Chiloe archipelago, the Lake District and northern Patagonia. Visit Plaza de Armas square, the Cathedral and the monument in honour of the region’s many German settlers. The Manuel Montt viewpoint is a great place to take in panoramic views of the city, including the Seno de Reloncavi and Tenglo Island. Later, the picturesque cove of Angelmo is visited, featuring a market, typical eateries and a crafts fair where you can purchase a wide variety of locally made products.
The trip continues to Puerto Varas, a city and lake resort lying on the western bank of Llanquihue Lake, renowned for the beauty of its landscapes and the German traditions of its founders. The ride along the waterfront offers impressive views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. Return to your hotel after visiting Plaza de Armas square, the old quarters and the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that is an exact replica of a church in Germany’s Black Forest.
