Introduction
This guided day walk up the Hooker Valley (4km, 2.5 miles), provides breathtaking views of some of New Zealand’s highest and most enthralling peaks.
Your day begins at the Hermitage Hotel before transferring to the White Horse Hill camping ground by courtesy coach. On arrival, your hike will begin, encompassing an Alpine Memorial and passing over the turbulent Hooker River by swing bridge.
Ending at the unsurpassed vistas of Aoraki Mount Cook’s south face and surrounding glaciers, your guide will point out the unique features of this alpine world as you enjoy lunch in the shadow of Oceania’s highest peak (3,754 metres).
After lunch, you will return along the same track before returning. The track’s surface is mostly smooth, although some walking over rocks is required. The optional bush walks vary in distance and gradient and you guide will suggest a suitable track.
