The tour begins at the famous Hengill Volcano where you will explore one of the many lava caves in the Blafell mountain range just east of Reykjavik. Accompanied by a guide, learn how the lava caves are formed and discover the beauty of both stalagmites and stalactites.
After enjoying the exquisite Icelandic underground, head to the Hengill geothermal area to enjoy an easy 4 hour hike in the ethereal surroundings where hot springs and bubbling mud pools await. Translated as ‘the Valley of Smoke’, this thriving geothermal area is only an hour away from Reykjavik and part of the system which heats Hveragerdi’s famous greenhouses.
Guests should bring their swimsuits as during the hike, there is a stop for a relaxing bath in a naturally-heated river.
This excursion includes transfers from Reykjavik.
