For more than just fishing enthusiasts, this popular northern sport is a fantastic way to enjoy the pristine stillness of the northern waterways.
Transferring out onto the stunning expanse of a frozen lake, an expert will walk you through the basics of catching your dinner in an icy wilderness.Drilling a hole in the ice is more difficult than it may seem, but you will be shown the technique, gauging into ice that can be as thick as 30-40cm in the depths of winter.
Once the water is clear, you will drop your line and wait out your first bite. Patience in this sport, like in most fishing, is half the pleasure and you can pass your time laughing and joking with other travellers, sharing stories, or simply sitting in silence and enjoying this isolated part of the northern wilderness. When you begin to get cold, hot drinks and cake are served by the campfire at a kota (teepee). Winter clothing included.
