Introduction
A guided city walk, this tour takes guests through the history of Ilulissat itself.
A city of prime historical significance, the town was originally founded as a trading post by the Danish in 1741 and on this tour your local guide will lead you through one of the original buildings dating from this time.
Other sites include the bustling fishing harbour, still an active contributor to the city’s economy, the old church, which was once the largest man-made object on Greenland, as well as the museum.
More recent history will be discussed as well, as, in 2008, Ilulissat played host to the Arctic Ocean Conference. Here, the Ilulissat Declaration was signed, attempting to resolve key issues relating to territorial claims in the Arctic.
