The Into Ice & Lava tour is a chance to get both beneath the surface of a glacier and below the earth in a lava cave!
The tour departs from Reykjavik towards the beautiful area of Borgarfjordur in west Iceland where you will board a magnificent 8WD truck which will carry you onto Langjokull glacier and to the ice cave entrance. Once inside, you will be able to view ice which has taken hundreds of years to develop. As you walk further along the tunnel, the ice gets older and the colour changes from white to deep blue. The cave stretches 200-300 metres into solid glacier ice at about 30 metres below the surface, making it the world’s largest manmade ice structure.
After the ice cave tour, make a stop for lunch (not included) in Husafell before an afternoon of exploring at the mighty Vidgelmir lava cave. The guide will explain the amazing features of the cave including the wonderful colours, lava stalagmites and stalactites.
During the day, a stop will be made at two spectacular waterfalls, Barnafossar and Hraunfossar which both flow from under the lava field.
