A town that was originally founded as mine for iron ore at the turn of the 20th century, it is now the world’s largest iron ore mine. Due to the expansion of the mine, the town has been forced to move several times over the years, but is still a thriving northern settlement. The host of the annual Snow Games Kiruna is a marvellous site to explore northern culture and hospitality.
Found so close to the Finnish border, the city of Kiruna has seen the influence of a number of Scandinavian cultures, including Swedish, Finnish and, of course, Sami. An excellent site to witness this intriguing blend of history and tradition is a fascinating addition to any journey into Swedish Lapland. Minimum 2 participants.
