After transferring to a small Sami village in Rensjon, 20km from Kiruna, and sheltered by the jagged wall of a mountain range, guests will have the opportunity to get close to both the iconic reindeer as well as the Sami people who still herd them today.
Learning about the unique art of reindeer husbandry in the context of the traditional Sami lifestyle, you will be able to take part in the daily care of these animals for yourselves, feeding them and learning to throw a reindeer lasso.
This will be followed by a brief, 5 km sledge ride through the forest, a marvellous opportunity to encounter the area’s white-coated wilderness in a traditional way.
On return, you will settle in for lunch around an open fire, where smoked reindeer meat (suovas) and traditional bread (gahkku) make up a satisfying meal. Vegetarian meals are available, but must be requested at the time of booking. Minimum 2 participants.
Duration: 5 hours
