West Glacial River Rafting
(Easy to Moderate, class II-III rapids)
3 hrs, 9km paddling
Seeking the perfect combination of fun and relaxation? Join us for a trip down the West Glacial River, where easy-to-moderate difficulty whitewater and stunning scenery combine to provide an unforgettable adventure for everyone from the novice rafter to the whole family! The trip begins with the check in at the activity operator’s base at Varmahlid. From here you can take the bus shuttle or your own car 15 km to the base camp, where you will meet your guides and receive a brief overview of the day’s events.
After getting fitted for all necessary equipment, take a 15-minute drive into the Vesturdalur Valley and receive further instruction and learn safety guidelines. From there you will winding your way through the valley’s majestic landscapes before drifting deep into the stunning West Glacial River canyon. Between stretches of rapids, you will find yourself sipping steaming hot cocoa made from natural spring water that bubbles right up from the riverbank! Minimum age 10 yrs, if accompanied by a parent.

East Glacial River Rafting
(Experienced, class III-IV+)
5 hrs, 16 km paddling
Feed your inner adrenaline junkie! An intense and challenging day trip, on what has been rated as one of Europe’s best commercially rafted rivers. An exhilarating rush through some of Iceland’s most spectacular whitewater, deep in the magnificent gorges of the East Glacial River canyon. An action-packed adventure guaranteed to keep your face wet and your heart pumping! Check-in at the activity operator’s office in Varmahlid. From here you can take the bus shuttle or your own car 15 km to the base camp, where you will meet your guides and safety kayakers and receive a full briefing.
After getting fitted for all necessary equipment, take a 45 minutes drive up into the Austurdalur valley and receive further instruction and thorough safety information. The East River gorge takes in such rapids as “The Lost”, “Screaming Lady”, “Green Room”, and “Deep Fry”. Celebrate your achievements with an 8m cliff jump (conditions permitting) immediately following the last of the river’s major rapids. Then cap off the thrill ride by paddling the final stretch of the East and out into the calmer waters of the Heradsvotn River, where you will have one last chance to bathe in the invigorating purity of Icelandic glacial water! Minimum age 18 yrs.
