iceland north lake myvatn pseudo crater st

Introduction

Take a guided day tour of some of the most popular sights of North Iceland including Lake Myvatn, Dettifoss, Asbyrgi National Park and the charming fishing village of Husavik.

After departing from Akureyri, the first stop on this tour is by Waterfall Goðafoss and from there, it visits the Lake Mývatn area and stops at Hverir, boiling mud pits, by Mt. Námafjall. That area is considered by many the most beautiful and at the same time the most catastrophic place in Iceland.

Continue to Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. 44m high and 100m wide, a mass of water mixed with mud and sand tumbles into Iceland’s most impressive canyon.

Travel alongside the Jökulsárgljúfur glacial canyon to Vesturdalur Valley and to Hljóðaklettar, the echoing cliffs. They are renowned for the basalt columns that characterize the ancient crater remains.

Next head down to the imposing horseshoe-shaped canyon Ásbyrgi, surrounded by precipitous cliffs. This place is known to be the meeting place of the pagan Gods. After a leisurely stop at a café, the tour heads through Húsavík village on the way back to Akureyri.

Duration: 10-11 hours
Price: from £184 per adult, £92 per child (11 and under), minimum 2 participants
