Tour of Chiloe National Park from Castro: The Darwin Route
Follow in Darwin’s footsteps on this tour of some of Chiloe’s most interesting attractions.
This excursion travels through some of the natural landscapes that amazed Charles Darwin during his explorations of the Huillinco and Curao Lakes and Pacific Ocean. Start with a visit to the city of Chonchi, built on such a steep incline that it’s also known as the Ciudad de los Tres Pisos (three-story city). Wander some of the best sites, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site church, the Museum of Traditions, the waterfront and the crafts market. The route continues to the lakeside village of Huilliinco, with a quaint cemetery of “little houses” very common around Chiloe. A visit to the Chiloe National Park comes next, where visitors will find the park interpretation centre, walk along the lovely “Sendero el Tepual” a pathway that winds through Chiloe´s thick and humid forest. The excursion ends at the Pacific Ocean coastline with a walk along the beach. You will return to Castro in the evening.
