Overview
Explore the frontier city of Yellowknife before flying to remote Blachford Lake Lodge. Accessible only by air, the lodge offers a variety of winter wilderness activities and its location right below the auroral oval, far from artificial light, makes it the perfect place for night-sky gazing.
The little-visited Northwest Territories make for an unforgettable winter holiday destination. With 2 nights in Yellowknife you will have time available to explore this frontier city, gaining a sense of what life is like in such a remote northern environment. Excellent sightings of the northern lights are common, even from Yellowknife, whilst the epic wilderness outside the city provides endless opportunities for outdoor adventures.
A 2-night stay at Blachford Lake Lodge allows the chance to immerse yourself in the Northwest Territories wild landscapes. Accessible only by air, the eco-lodge is perched on the shores of Blachford Lake and offers a cosy base from which to explore the surrounding boreal forest. Here you can try ice fishing, tobogganing, skating and snowshoeing, building up a big appetite for a hearty dinner back at the lodge.
As darkness falls all eyes turn to the sky – conditions permitting you may be rewarded with a multi-coloured display of lights dancing overhead. We recommend viewing the aurora from the best seat in the house – the outdoor hot tub!
Exclusive to Discover the World guests
Enjoy a special 1-hour snowmobile instruction, allowing you to learn the basics of snowmobiling and experience the true beauty of the frozen landscape.
