Overview

Discover the spectacular rainforests of Far North Queensland on this small-group tour focused on immersive nature experiences. Guided by local experts, explore the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, home to an extraordinary array of endemic species. Cruise the Daintree River in search of crocodiles and vibrant birdlife, take in the dramatic beauty of Cape Tribulation, and marvel at the towering Curtain Fig Tree. Stay in secluded rainforest lodges and encounter rare creatures like the Mapee (Lumholtz’s tree kangaroo).

This three-day adventure begins and ends in the city of Cairns, offering a seamless escape into one of the world’s most ancient ecosystems. As you journey through lush landscapes and diverse habitats, you’ll gain a unique and unforgettable glimpse into Earth’s oldest surviving tropical rainforest.

Travel north on the scenic Great Barrier Reef Drive, learning about the changing habitats as you head to the Daintree Tropical Rainforest. Glide along the Daintree River aboard a silent solar-powered boat, ideal for spotting crocodiles, birds, snakes, frogs and bats with minimal environmental impact. Enjoy lunch surrounded by lush rainforest views and the sounds of nature. In the afternoon, explore the Jindalba Boardwalk and nearby trails to discover ancient ecosystems and endemic wildlife, before ending the day at a secluded eco-resort nestled in the coastal rainforest.

This morning, journey to Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. Surrounded by dramatic peaks like Mt Sorrow and Mt Hemmant, this lush valley is known for its tropical climate, remote beaches and striking scenery. After lunch, visit the incredible curtain fig tree. Marvel at this ancient rainforest giant and listen to the calls of native birds in the surrounding forest. Your day ends at a lodge nestled within 1,200 acres of rainforest. Set in the beautiful Waterfalls and Crater Lakes district of the Atherton Tablelands, this area is perfect for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. In the evening, join an optional night walk to spot secretive nocturnal creatures – a must-do experience in this tropical region.

After breakfast, visit Malanda Conservation Park, home to the rarely seen mapee (Lumholtz tree kangaroo). Along the scenic walk, enjoy a photo stop at Malanda Falls and look out for other wildlife such as the freshwater snapping turtle and grey-headed robin. Continue to Lake Barrine, a stunning volcanic crater lake renowned for birdwatching and wildlife spotting. Several walking trails offer chances to see reptiles like water dragons, as well as birds, eels, fish, and other Wet Tropics endemics. Enjoy a relaxing lakeside lunch before visiting the award-winning Tolga Bat Hospital, a leading ecotourism site dedicated to bat conservation and education.
