Overview

This laid-back summer self-drive follows West Sweden’s beautiful coastline from Gothenburg to Fjallbacka, showcasing some of the country’s best kept secrets. Discover a myriad of islands and skerries dotted with brightly painted houses, stay in picturesque villages, visit historic sights and indulge in some fine seafood.

Starting in Gothenburg, enjoy a day sightseeing in this compact and charming city, which is best explored on foot, by tram and canal boat. It is packed full of chic shops, interesting museums, galleries, and an enticing array of cafes, bars and restaurants – foodies especially will enjoy this place. In fact, this entire holiday is a gastronome’s delight with so many wonderful seafood restaurants up and down the coast, and the chance to join a shellfish safari, which we highly recommend.

Beyond the city, the region lends itself perfectly to leisurely exploration with a wealth of places to visit and outdoor activities set against scenic backdrops and in relatively close proximity to each other. Nordens Ark wildlife park, the fort on Marstrand and the Bronze age rock carvings near Tanumshede are not to be missed as well as the chance to go sea kayaking in the calm waters off Fjallbacka

With Fjallbacka as a base there are a host of attractions to visit in the area. The remote Weather Islands, easily reached by a regular boat service, and the Koster Islands with their unspoilt beaches and marine national park, are definitely worth exploring. Visit the UNESCO site at Tanum for outstanding examples of Bronze Age art carved some 3,000 years ago. Enjoy a Seafood Safari in Grebbestad and enjoy mouthwatering langoustines, lobster, mussels and oysters.
