Full description

The aim of the expedition is to see the awe-inspiring northern lights (aurora borealis) and by departing in September, traditionally a good month to see the colours light up the sky, you will have a great chance. Though like spotting wildlife you will need a little luck on your side.

Itinerary & Accommodation

Day 1: Reykjavik, Iceland

Your adventure begins with an overnight stay in thoroughly-modern Reykjavik, the world's northernmost capital city.

Days 2: Embarkation

The morning is your own time and in the afternoon you will board the vessel and begin your expedition. Get ready for a great adventure ahead!

Days 3: Exploring the Vestfjords

The Vestfjords (Westfjords), where the land meets the sea in a dramatic manner, is one of the least explored areas of the country any area of the country though it has its own appeal for nature, bird and history lovers. Exploring this rugged peninsula at the country’s remote north-western tip offers awe-inspiring vistas of mountains, fjords and towering cliffs. If weather conditions allow, the ship will cruise along Látrabjarg, Europe’s largest bird cliff which is teeming with puffins, razorbills, guillemots and more.

Day 4: At sea

Cruising north across the Denmark Strait, your Expedition Team will prepare you for the adventure. Learn about the history and politics of the Arctic, the wildlife that call the area home, geology and climate. You may also see seabirds that follow the ship and potentially whales that frequent the cold waters

Day 5-12: Exploring north-east Greenland

Over the course of the next week you will exploring by Zodiac cruises and shore visits to various locations, all of which will be determined by the weather and ice. You are likely to see grazing muskoxen, as 40 percent of the world’s muskoxen population lives in the area. Sailing through spectacular Scoresbysund, the birthplace of many icebergs, you will immediately see why many say it is the most beautiful fjord system on the planet. Sites such as Frederiksdal and Sydkap offer opportunities to explore the tundra and the remains of ancient Thule, Inuit ancestors, settlements.

Day 13: At sea

As you sail back to Iceland and the adventure comes to an end take a final look at where you are, enjoy a presentation by the on-board experts, share your photos or sip a drink in the bar. Your expedition team will also be on hand to answer any questions and point out wildlife.

Day 14: Disembark and depart Reykjavik, Iceland

You will disembark in Reykjavik at the end of your journey. If you have booked post-expedition accommodation a transfer will be provided to take you to your central downtown location.
