Itinerary & Vessel

Itinerary & Vessel

Day 1: overnight in Reykjavik

Arrive in the Icelandic capital and make your own way into the city. This evening join a welcome reception and orientation at your hotel.

Day 2: fly to Akureyri and embark ship

Fly from Reykjavik to Akureyri in the north of Iceland and embark the ship. Then set sail and head west towards Greenland.

Days 3-4: East Greenland

Arriving at Greenland's coast you will visit the Arctic ghost town of Skoldungen, abandoned in favour of larger and more accessible settlements in 1961. Skoldungenfjord is a great place to explore by Zodiac or kayak, gliding past icebergs for spectacular photographic opportunities.

Days 5-7: South Greenland

Dramatic Tasermiut Fjord is understandably popular with climbers and mountaineers, and often nicknamed the 'Arctic Patagonia'. The area was originally settled by notorious Viking, Erik the Red. Rounding Cape Farewell, the southernmost point of Greenland, you may stop at the natural hot springs at Uunartoq, where you can relax in geothermal waters and watch icebergs passing by.

Days 8-13 West Greenland

Heading north you will visit some of the colourful villages that dot the islands and fjords of Greenland. You may visit Nuuk, the capital, where you can wander the streets and see Hans Egede Church and the Hans Egede statue near the waterfront, named after the missionary who founded the settlement. You can also marvel at the museum's famous Greenlandic mummies.

Evighedsfjorden, meaning Fjord of Eternity, is a favourite location for more in-depth exploration by Zodiac. Towering mountains and colourful tundra make for excellent photography opportunities in this Arctic wilderness.

Ilulissat is another breathtaking fjord, home to one of the world's fastest moving glaciers. Moving approximately 19m per day, the glacier here provides the opportunity to watch huge chunks of ice crashing into the sea. Abandoned villages and ancient Thule sites can be explored at nearby Amerdloq Fjord.

Day 14: Disembarkation in Kangerlussuaq

You will disembark the ship today in Kangerlussuaq, before boarding the charter flight back to Reykjavik for an overnight stay in the city.

Day 15: Depart Reykjavik

After breakfast bid farewell to your fellow voyagers and choose to depart or extend your stay in Iceland.
