Itinerary & Accommodation

Itinerary & Accommodation

Day 1: Toronto

Arrive in Toronto and spend the rest of the day at leisure in Canada’s largest city. Overnight at an included hotel.

Day 2: Toronto - Resolute, Embarkation

This morning, board your charter flight to Resolute, from where you will make your way to the ship by Zodiac and begin your voyage through the heart of the Northwest Passage.

Days 3-7: Canadian High Arctic & the Northwest Passage

Explore the highlights in the heart of the Canadian Arctic as you navigate the Northwest Passage. Many factors play a role in shaping the expedition's itinerary, including sea, ice and weather conditions, but your Expedition Team will ensure you see as much as possible with regular shore landings and Zodiac cruises. You may also take an included sightseeing flight by helicopter and enjoy a heli-landing to areas not easily accessible, such as the Devon ice cap, one of the largest in the Canadian Arctic.
Possible highlights of your voyage may include the chance to go ashore on Coburg Island, or view the imposing vertical cliffs dotted with nesting seabirds of Prince Leopold Island. The sheltered shores and steep cliffs of Arctic Bay provide an ideal nesting habitat for Arctic birds including thick-billed murres (Brunnich’s guillemots) and kittiwakes. This is also the ideal spot to go ashore and learn about the Inuit culture, mingling with the locals and sampling their local cuisine. There could also be a chance to spot narwhal, beluga and bowhead whales as you cruise through the protected waters of Lancaster Sound, designated a National Marine Conservation Area in 2017. Devon Island is another possibility for wildlife encounters, as walrus, polar bears and muskoxen inhabit the area. Or perhaps go ashore on Beechey Island, home to the lonely graves of three members of Sir John Franklin’s ill-fated 1845 expedition team. History buffs will also enjoy the chance to explore an abandoned Hudson’s Bay Company trading post at Fort Ross.
Along the way enjoy dramatic landscapes, wildlife sightings and informative presentations from your knowledgeable expedition team.

Day 8: Disembarkation, Resolute – Toronto

Disembark your ship in the morning and transfer to Resolute airport for your flight back to Toronto. Enjoy a final night’s stay in Toronto.

Bid farewell to your fellow travellers as your Arctic expedition comes to an end.
