Overview

The Icehotel is quite simply one of the most unique and spectacular places in the world to spend the night. Located in Jukkasjarvi, a peaceful village in Swedish Lapland, 200km north of the Arctic Circle and surrounded by pristine snow-covered fells and forests, this is a hotel of inspired Art Suites, thrilling winter activities and mouth-watering Swedish cuisine. With luck, you’ll also witness the spellbinding northern lights. Take this classic short break and discover what all the excitement is about!

The Icehotel

Crafted each year using ice from the frozen River Torne, the Icehotel is transformed into a work of art by the world’s leading ice sculptors. Building the seasonal Icehotel normally begins in early November with most of the rooms ready by the middle of December with final touches being made in early January, dependant on weather conditions. Walking inside, you will be mesmerised by hallways lit by sparkling chandeliers of ice, while the art suites have to be seen to be believed. The Icehotel 365 offers a year-round ice experience, blending seamlessly during winter with the seasonal Icehotel, which melts back into the river each spring. As its leading worldwide partner, we’ve been arranging holidays to the Icehotel since its inception in 1990.  

Sleeping in an ice room

Typically Icehotel guests spend one night in an ice room and the other two in warm accommodation. Classic Ice rooms typically contain a double bed but some can sleep up to 4. The Art Suites are larger, individually themed and hand-carved by artists from all over the world. The 365 Art Suites are the largest with a solid door and there are 9 Deluxe Suites that have an en-suite (warm) bathroom. If you’d like to upgrade to an art suite, or book a warm room as back-up for the whole stay our specialists can tailor your trip to suit your every need.

Eating and drinking

The Icehotel restaurant offers a fine dining experience (reservations are highly recommended). There is also a breakfast and lunch buffet served here. The 12-course Chef’s Table experience at the Veranda (16 spaces available per sitting), offers guests a menu of bite-sized delights. Alternatively, a picturesque 20-minute walk from the hotel through the village is the Homestead restaurant serving an a la carte menu in a cosy atmosphere. Inside Icehotel 365 you’ll find the Ice Bar serving a selection of cocktails from glasses made of ice. There’s also the bar offering a warm, cosy atmosphere to relax and enjoy a nightcap. Icehotel Accommodation

This inspiring and ‘cool’ hotel has to be seen to be believed! Combining engineering know-how with supreme design flare, the Icehotel is created each winter then left to melt back into the River Torne in late April.

Alongside the winter hotel is the permanent Icehotel 365 housing the spectacular Icebar. And nearby heated buildings complete the experience. Staying at the Icehotel combines conventional comfort with the intriguing concept of ‘sleeping on ice’.

Itinerary

On arrival at Kiruna you will be transferred to Jukkasjarvi – you can upgrade to a transfer by husky sled. Check in at the Icehotel for a 3 night stay. Speak to our Icehotel specialists should you wish to upgrade to an Art Suite or Deluxe Suite for your night in the Icehotel.

Getting to the Icehotel

Kiruna Airport in Swedish Lapland is just 20 minutes from the Icehotel. Scheduled flights from the UK to Kiruna operate throughout the year via Stockholm so you can choose to travel on the most convenient dates for you. You can also take the opportunity to add a night or two in Sweden’s vibrant capital city.

Extend your stay in Stockholm

Sweden’s capital city is stretched across an archipelago of 14 islands connected by a network of waterways and bridges. It is a delightful mix of traditional and contemporary and the city centre can be easily explored on foot. Stylish restaurants and a lively café scene complement the museums and royal palaces while the old town ‘Gamla Stan’ is a must to explore.
