Itinerary
You will be met on arrival at Ivalo Airport and transferred to Muotka Wilderness Hotel. Check into your accommodation where you will spend the next 4 nights.
Muotka Wilderness Hotel
Today you will start the day with a short drive to Kiilopää Fell Centre for a hike in the famous National Park ” Urho Kekkonen”. Your guide will decide on the best route for the day depending on the weather and trail conditions. Prepare for a moderate climb to the summit of Kiilopää. During the hike you will learn about the stunning nature and wildlife in the tundra and fells. A delicious open fire lunch will be prepared and served during the activity. Moderate climb, intermediate difficulty.
After your day you will have chance to enjoy a Finnish sauna experience and dip into the fresh river water.
This morning you will take a short drive from the hotel to the nearby Gold village of Tankavaara. You will visit the Gold Museum which is the only international museum in the world displaying past and present of gold panning and prospecting. Afterwards you will catch some fresh air during a short hike that leads you into a part of the Urho Kekkonen National Park. The trails are easy and you might be able to spot some wildlife. A tasty soup-lunch at the local restaurant will give you some new energy for your last activity of the day – Gold panning! Gold prospectors have been searching for gold in Lapland for 150 years and in Tankavaara Gold Village, they continue this unique culture by teaching the secrets of gold panning to visitors every year. They lend you all the equipment you need and you can keep all the gold you find!
In the evening you will have aurora workshop where your expert guides will tell you almost everything you need to know about northern lights. Your guide will also explain how you get your own camera (or phone) optimised for photographing northern lights.
Today you have a free day to explore the trails that sound Muotka Wilderness Hotel or relax in the sauna.
After dinner you will go out for Aurora hunting excursion and hope that you are blessed with dancing lights. This trip takes you to one of the specifically chosen spots, where you will try to catch the northern lights. You will also prepare some tasteful pancakes by bonfire during the trip.
After breakfast it is time to say goodbye to your hosts.
