Overview
Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula in the south-western tip of Iceland offers a great base for a short break amongst lava fields and other amazing wonders for which the land of fire and ice is known. Based at the modern and cosy Northern Light Inn for three nights, this self-drive itinerary allows you to explore the volcanic landscapes, rugged coastlines and small fishing villages of the area.
Explore and relax in equal measure
Enjoy plenty of time to explore the sights of the nearby Reykjanes Peninsula. Walk across the bridge over two continents, walk around the steamy Krysuvik mud pools, be amazed by the mysterious Gunnuhver geothermal area or head to Reykjanesviti beach, where Iceland’s oldest lighthouse sits amongst a dramatic rocky landscape. In the peninsula you can also get a taste of Iceland’s passion for music at the national museum of Rock ‘n’ Roll or delve into its history by visiting the Viking World exhibition. After a busy day sightseeing, return to the Northern Light Inn for some complimentary waffles and coffee in the comfortable lounge or relax in the wellness spa before enjoying the culinary delights offered at Max’s Restaurant. If you would like to extend your stay in Iceland, the capital Reykjavik and the wonders of the south capital are just a short drive away.
Visiting the Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is a large expanse of naturally heated saltwater blended with freshwater. Its inviting powder-blue waters are strikingly set amidst a jet black lavascape. The water is rich in unique natural minerals and dotted around the waters edge you'll find silica mud pots - cover your face and body with this white mud to reinvigorate tired skin! The flow and mix of the water is controlled, keeping temperatures at 37-39°C (98-102°F). The lagoon also has a swim-up bar where you can purchase drinks using an electronic wrist band.
Although most visitors choose to bathe, guests may enter the facility without bathing, if they prefer to simply take photos or enjoy a meal overlooking the lagoon. Onsite there is the Blue Café as well as the stylish Lava Restaurant, which has been ingeniously built into the lava and offers an à la carte menu for sophisticated evening dining.
With a range of optional spa and massage treatments available both in the water and in special treatment rooms, you’ll leave the lagoon feeling relaxed and revitalised.
With so many of Iceland's natural wonders on the doorstep, you'll have plenty of options for filling your days with adventure and come winter, you can opt to spend your evenings in the hotel’s observation lounge, looking out for the northern lights.
Please note that due to the Blue Lagoon’s popularity and in order to avoid delays upon arrival we strongly recommend customers to pre-book their entrance tickets in advance with an allocated entry time. Please contact our team to find out more.
