Itinerary & Vessel

Itinerary & Vessel

Day 1: Arrive in Oslo

Check-in to your hotel where you can meet the other passengers boarding the ship tomorrow. Oslo, the capital city, offers plenty of museums, restaurants and open spaces to explore.

Days 2: Depart Oslo for embarkation in Longyearbyen

This morning you will be transfer to the airport and board the charter flight to Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen’s largest settlement. You will begin time to explore the town before embarkation. As the ship sets sail, enjoy your first view of the island’s rugged, glacier-topped mountains rising majestically from icy waters.

Days 3-6: Spitsbergen

Spitsbergen, the largest island in the Svalbard archipelago, is home to numerous varieties of wildlife and stunning natural beauty. Visit spectacular glaciers and steep-walled fjords with the possibility of seeing walrus, reindeer and the elusive polar bear. In the sky arctic terns, skuas, long-tailed ducks, kittiwakes and ivory gulls will be flying.

Days 7 and 8: At Sea

As you sail towards the island of Jan Mayen, the expedition team will keep you busy with presentations about the storied history of the area, discuss Arctic politics, teach you about the wildlife, geology, ecology and climate and inform you of what you will see over the next few days.

Days 9 and 10: Exploring Jan Mayen

280 miles from Greenland, 340 miles from Iceland and north of the Arctic Circle you will find the isolated island of Mayen hidden deep in the North Atlantic. Usually covered in a blanket of fog, the small mountainous island was declared a nature reserve in 2010. Just 18 people inhabit the island all of who work for the Norwegian military or Norwegian Meteorological Institute.

Days 11 to 15: Exploring Scoresbysund, Greenland

Scoresbysund, the largest, deepest and to many, most beautiful fjord system in the world is the perfect area to be explored by Zodiac. As well as the amazing scenery explore the ancient Thule (ancestors to the Inuits), meet the locals and understand their way of life in Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland’s most remote community.

Days 16 and 17: At Sea

Heading south over the Denmark Strait towards Iceland enjoy a presentation, share your photos, relax at that bar or watch a film.

Day 18: Disembark and depart Reykjavik, Iceland

You will disembark in Reykjavik at the end of your journey. If you have booked post-expedition accommodation a transfer will be provided to take you to your central downtown location.
