In an effort to help preserve and protect the natural surroundings at Wolgan Valley, guests are invited to take part in various conservation work alongside expert field guides including seed collection, tree planting, pest control, WOMSAT and wildlife monitoring. The resort actively practice positive environmental and social sustainability, from maintaining their carbon-neutral certificate for the last 10 consecutive years to minimising waste, recycling, water and energy consumption. The resort are also committed to the re-vegetation and environmental restoration of the surrounding area, via extensive tree planting and eradication of invasive plants. One&Only Wolgan Valley are proud to also fund research on wombat preservation, and as a result of new technology the wombat population has significantly increased.

Longitude 131°

Each guest tent has been carefully designed to have minimal impact on the delicate natural environment, standing lightly upon red sand dunes. Solar panels on each tent provide hot water heating, whilst a major solar installation at Ayers Rock Resort generates about 15% of Yulara's average energy use, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels. Other initiatives include separation of recycling goods, the use of recycled water for gardens, using food compost from the kitchen on garden beds and growing a selection of fresh produce onsite to lesson their carbon footprint.

Silky Oaks Lodge

This property has a comprehensive Environmental Management Plan which covers the resorts impact on the surrounding environment, from water and waste management to energy conservation and recycling. The architectural design of the property has been planned to maximise the benefit of natural weather patterns, encouraging flow-through ventilation and the use of glazing to capture sunlight and store natural heat. Wherever possible, energy efficient equipment is utilised to reduce energy consumption, including low wattage light bulbs and 'daylight' switches. Biodegradable chemicals are used for cleaning and extensive recycling is undertaken. All waste water is sent to the property's own waste water management plant, and once processed through a sand filter system this water is then distributed around the property's forested areas.
