Overview

With 25 years working in the Marketing team at Discover the World, I’ve spent a lot of time showcasing our collection of holidays to inspire adventurous travellers including myself.

Having fallen for all things Aussie in my teens, my travel bug started on a backpacking trip Down Under in my early 20s. In particular, I developed a passion for Australia’s rust-red Outback working as a jillaroo on a cattle station outside Alice Springs. A hop over to New Zealand followed, cementing my love of the Antipodes. I’ve returned to both places since and they still top my list.

However, joining DTW in the early noughties, I was quickly charmed by the Nordics. Iceland’s raw beauty can blow you away time after time – it’s a place to visit in both summer and winter. Two of my fondest Iceland memories happened at 2am! First sitting in a hot tub with friends under the midnight sun in North Iceland and feeling so energised despite the hour.

The other watching the northern lights dance over Kirkjufell having heeded an aurora wake-up call. I was still in my pyjamas (and outerwear, I might add)!

In the Scandies, I’ve hiked up mountains, searched for the aurora, and enjoyed sleeping on ice… thrice. But it was the laidback vibe of West Sweden’s Bohuslan archipelago in summer that really got under my skin. A recent self-drive in Finnish Lakeland had a similar rejuvenating effect.

I’ve encountered polar bears in Canada and hit the road in the Rockies, British Columbia and Nova Scotia. I’d recommend kayaking in Tofino, driving the Icefields Parks and whale watching in the Bay of Fundy to anyone! I also feel immensely privileged to have visited both Antarctica and the Arctic on small-ship voyages.

Where next? Costa Rica, of course.
