As teachers, we know your time is valuable, so we focus on providing transparent and honest quotes from the outset.

Arguably, the cultural capitals of Morocco, the imperial cities of Fes, Meknès and Rabat, offer an immersive journey into the country's artistic past.

Your students will absorb centuries of tradition in UNESCO-Listed medinas, towering gates and maze-like alleys while being surrounded by the French language.

Our team of travel specialists and former MFL teachers know the importance of real-world learning when it comes to languages. That’s why this itinerary focuses on unique activities that encourage engagement with locals and learning through fun, resulting in a deeper appreciation of the Francophone world beyond Europe and stronger exam performance.

Day

2

Language Workshop, Fes walking tour and Volublis

Start with a workshop at a language school and learn about the changes to the language in the city after the French rule ended. Your students will also learn key vocabulary for the day’s upcoming activities and a few Arabic terms, too.

Discover the UNESCO-Listed Medina of Fes, one of the oldest and largest medinas in the world. Stroll through its lively streets and marvel at the intricate architecture.

Continue to the Bou Inania Madrasa, the sense-provoking Chouara Tannery, Al Quaraouiyine (the world’s oldest operating university) and the famed souks.

Travel to Volublis for a guided tour of this Roman city that was a centre for agriculture and trade in North Africa. Wander through the remains of temples, baths and villas and see well-preserved mosaics, and learn about how the Romans brought advanced building techniques to this part of the world.

Next, you’ll visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss I, the founder of the first Islamic dynasty in Morocco, and a highly revered figure in the country’s history. Unsurprisingly, this is one of Morocco’s most important pilgrimage sites, and its stunning location on the hillside offers panoramic views of the surrounding olive groves and mountains.

Travel to Meknès.

  • GCSE: Numbers, prices, shopping role-play, opinions
  • A Level: Colonial history & language change (“Aspects of French-speaking society”), gastronomy as cultural heritage

Local chefs will teach students in French to make the perfect tagine bursting with local spices. While their dishes are cooking, students can learn to make authentic Moroccan mint tea to enjoy with their delicious meal.

This afternoon, you’ll take a medina walking tour to see the Grand Mosque, Bab el Mansour, and Meknès Medina at Place el-Hedim, where you’ll learn more about the city’s story in French and experience its sights, sounds and smells.

Curriculum links:
