Tangier is a cultural crossroad shaped by African, European and Arab influences making it an ideal setting for your Spanish MFL school trip. 

Your students will be immersed in the Spanish language as it’s widely spoken here and in nearby Tetouan and Chefchaouen. Your itinerary will blend tailored workshops with cultural experiences helping students gain improved confidence and fluency in real-world Spanish and a deeper appreciation of the Spanish-speaking world beyond Europe.

1

Arrive in Tangier

Arrive in northern Morocco and meet your Tour Leader at Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport.

Start with a guided Tangier walking tour. You’ll see why the city is known for its laid-back bohemian vibe as you wander through the medina. Stops also include the Ville Nouvelle, a lively district with European-style architecture and the contrasting Kasbah, an ancient fortress overlooking the city and the sea.

After dinner, walk to your Arab-Andalucian music lesson in Spanish. Discover how these rhythms are cultural significance in both Spanish and Moroccan culture.

2

Hercules Caves and Cape Spartel

Start with a Spanish workshop and learn why the language is spoken in northern Morocco. Students will also be taught key vocabulary for the activities ahead.

Travel to Hercules Caves, where you’ll learn about the legend of Hercules in Spanish! See the cave’s impressive rock formations and hear stories about the mythical hero.

At the nearby Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea, enjoy breath taking views of the coastline from its lighthouse.

After a picnic lunch in the park, spend some time relaxing and playing games on the beach.

Day

3

Rif Mountains, Islamic Calligraphy Lesson. and Moroccan Storytelling

Head to Chefchaouen, aka the “blue city,” nestled in the Rif Mountains.

See the azure-coloured city’s rich in heritage including the Kasbah with its lush gardens in the middle of the old quarter.

Afterwards, enjoy a Moroccan and Islamic calligraphy lesson before an evening of traditional storytelling!

4

Spanish Mosque, Tetouan and Ethnographic Museum

First, visit the Spanish Mosque, which blends traditional Moroccan architecture with European influences. Inside is reserved for worshippers, but you can take in the panoramic city views and the surrounding Rif Mountains.

Travel to Tetouan, a historic city with a well-preserved medina and strong Andalusian influences.

Visit the Royal Artisan School to meet the students and take part in a craft workshop.

Step into northern Morocco’s past at the Ethnographic Museum. You’ll see traditional clothes, jewellery, tools and crafts that reflect the region’s cultural diversity.

Join a hands-on cooking class led in Spanish and learn how to prepare a traditional tagine using Moroccan spices. The class is a fun way to experience local culture and build confidence using new vocabulary before sampling your delicious creations!

Home

Spend your last morning exploring Tetouan before your flight home from Tangier. Students can pick-up last-minute souvenirs using their newly gained Spanish knowledge and bolstered confidence to haggle and speak with the local sellers.
