Norway is a fantastic destination for a geography trip. This unique country boasts a wide variety of geographical features including waterfalls, glaciers, forests, rivers, fjords and beautiful national parks.

Our geography itinerary sends students to the raw and rugged Hardanger region of Norway. The region is full of exquisite natural geographical features and the trip offer students a chance to really embrace the gorgeous great outdoors.

Norway offers an exciting twist on a traditional geography trip. Students are encouraged to be as self-sufficient and independent as possible so will assemble their own breakfast and packed lunch, before heading out to start their fascinating day of exploring!

Day 1

Either visit one of Norway’s most spectacular waterfalls, Steindalsfossen, the perfect photo opportunity to kick start your trip.

Or tour the efficient floating salmon farm and learn why Norway is the world’s largest salmon producers.

Head to your home for the next few days – Hardangertun Holiday Park located in the village of Kinsarvik, at the heart of Hardangerfjord and ideally located midway between the Hardangervidda and Folgefonna National Parks.

Day 2

Hike the spectacular Bondhus glacial valley. Actively learn about glaciology, local history and geology as you’re led through the valley towards the Bondhus glacier, an offshoot of the Folgefonna glacier which descends almost 1,000m.

Day 3

Tour one of Europe’s largest hydroelectric power stations, Sima hydropower plant.

Explore the Norwegian Nature Centre, an interactive learning hub where you can learn about the relationship between Norwegian nature, climate and environment through the use of their innovative interactive displays.

Explore northern Europe’s largest mountain plateau and Norway’s largest national park, Hardangervidda plateau.

Watch as the stunning Voringsfossen waterfall cascades 182 metres of the cliff edge and thunders down into the valley.

Day 4

Trek through the Husedalen trail, beginning at the second largest fjord in Norway, Hardangerfjord, through the lush green forest and past four enchanting waterfalls.

Relax, as you enjoy lunch with an extraordinary view, having reached the view point at the top!

Day 5

Explore the compact city of Bergen with a guided tour. The city itself is fascinating for geographers as it is surrounded by the seven mountains, and most of the urban area is on or close to a fjord or bay.

Enjoy some free time and a chance to grab your souvenirs and take in the stunning city surroundings for one final time before heading home.

Day 1

Kick start your trip with a burst of geography as you gaze in wonder at one of Norway’s most spectacular waterfalls, Steindalsfossen.

Or walk on a floating salmon farm to experience the salmon underwater, and learn more about the farm and its methods.

Arrive at Hardangertun Holiday Park, where you will be staying. The holiday park has long been used by Norwegian school children and is designed to promote a sense of responsibility and independence in students, but in a supportive environment.

Day 2

Commence the Husedalen trail hike at the second largest fjord in Norway, Hardangerfjord. Journey through the enchanting forests and past four enchanting waterfalls.

Take in the spectacular views from the top of the trail, with a spot of lunch!

Day 3

Visit the Sima hydropower plant, one of Europe’s largest hydroelectric power stations.

Investigate the Norwegian nature centre, where you can interactively engage with the displays and demonstrations to learn about the relationship between Norwegian nature, climate and environment.

Explore Norway’s largest national park and northern Europe’s largest mountain plateau, Hardangervidda plateau.

Photograph Voringsfossen, arguably Norway’s most famous waterfall due to its sheer beauty and breath-taking surroundings.

Day 4

Conquer your fears by trying via ferrata climbing, which translates to the “iron path” allowing you to safely climb your way up natural rock!

Test your nerve with an exhilarating zip wire experience.

Glide through the incredible Hardangerfjord by canoe.

Day 5

Take in the views of Bergen. Bryggen, consisting of the old Hanseatic wharf and buildings, is one of the best-known urban settlements remaining from the Middle Ages and has a justified place on UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list.
