Resilience Trip to Costa Rica Costa Rica

8 Days from £1890pp

based on a group size of 26 students and 3 teachers (free places)

Pura Vida” (pronounced poo-rah vee-dah) means “pure life” and in Costa Rica that really is a way of life. Costa Ricans use this term to say hello, to say goodbye and to say everything’s great, but it also reflects how they view life. Pura vida, to them, means being thankful for what they have and not dwelling on the negative.

This positive outlook, along with a vibrant culture, abundance of exciting activities and plethora of opportunities to enhance students’ self-esteem, confidence, team-work, and resilience, makes Costa Rica the ultimate resilience trip destination.

If you are looking to combine a resilience school trip with an academic or curriculum focused one, you can talk to a travel specialist about designing a bespoke trip to meet the needs of you and your students.

Day

1

Fly to San Jose

You will arrive in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, in time to have a great night sleep before your action packed trip commences the next day.

Day

2

Pacuare Leatherback Turtle Reserve

This is one of our most special activities. Students will get a chance to partake in life changing conservation work. Since prehistoric times, Playa Grande has been one of the world’s principle nesting beaches for the Giant Leatherback sea turtle and the beach is also home to Green sea turtles. The Leatherback nesting season runs from October to February but Green turtles nest all year round.

Day

3

Pacuare Leatherback Turtle Reserve

Depending on the time of year that you visit the Pacuare Leatherback Turtle Reserve there will be different ways that students can get involved in conservation.

From March-July students will join the turtle census and witness the nesting process.

In June-September you will help thousands of baby Leatherback turtles hatch.

Whatever time of year you visit the Pacuare Reserve you will find hundreds of species of animals along the banks of the river and in the surrounding canals.

Day

4

La Fortuna Waterfall, Arenal Volcano and Baldi Hot Springs

490 steps stand between your students and the magnificent La Fortuna Waterfall, where you can watch as the waterfall cascades from dense forest before plummeting 65m into an emerald pool below. After seeing the impressive falls, you can cool off by taking a dip in the waters below.

Next students will follow an easy trail until they reach Arenal Volcano, which until recently was the most active volcano in Costa Rica. When reaching their destination, on one side students will see the stunning blue waters of Arenal Lake and on the other the impressive volcano looms.

After an active day in the fresh air, students will have a chance to chill out. The Baldi Hot Springs is a tranquil resort featuring 25 thermal water pools. You’ll hear the hum of the tropical rainforest blend with the sound of running water, making you feel as though you are in paradise.

Day

5

Monteverde Cloudforest, Hanging Bridges and Canopy-Zip lining

Today students will visit the place that National Geographic described as “the jewel in the crown of cloud forests” and it is listed as one of the seven wonders of Costa Rica. 50% of the flora and Fauna in Costa Rica can be found here and it houses 2.5% of worldwide biodiversity. Introducing Monteverde Cloud Forsest.

Monteverde treetop walkways are a fantastic way to witness the cloud forest canopy at your own pace. From the bridges you will be able to observe the endemic biodiversity of the cloud forest, as well as lookout for wildlife that resides in there. The trail is 1.9 miles long and is made up of eight bridges of various lengths which range between 170 feet and 560 feet.

Then, students will get their blood pumping and be able to see the forest from a new height in this adventurous Zip lining activity! Zip line on Costa Rica’s longest cable and become truly immersed in virgin forest. The tour is made up of 15 cables and 18 viewing platforms, crossing over two miles of forest and combining the thrill of the zip line with a unique perspective of the tree top canopy.
