A bit about me…

I have taught all aspects of geography to A-Level for over 30 years, I have taught mainly the AQA specification and have been an examiner for a range of boards. I have worked in schools in Coventry, Wolverhampton, Bolton and Oldham I have very recently retired from being Assistant Head in charge of Personal Education, the DoE programme (Bronze to Gold) and Educational Visits Co-ordinator.

Enrichment and learning outside the classroom has always been a huge passion of mine and to encourage this I have led many KS3, GCSE and A-Level Geography fieldtrips and residentials throughout the UK and abroad. I have also run a large number of ‘action and adventure’ trips and exchanges which have included countries such as Sweden, Austria, Kenya and Morocco.

As a further area of facilitating the holistic growth of students I have always enjoyed been involved with outdoor pursuits and hold the Summer Mountain Leader award and Climbing Wall Instructor certificate. These have helped to enable me to co-ordinate and participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award in 3 schools.

Why I love being a Teacher Tour Leader…

I first visited Iceland in 1993 and have returned to the country independently a number of times since. It is one of the most spectacular places to travel – if awe and wonder is what you crave the country never ceases to provide it! The landscapes, the geography and the people are all fantastic, so helping others to appreciate the country’s features is both a joy and a privilege.

My favourite activity in Iceland…

Hiking amongst the glacial environments at Skaftafell is always a wonderful experience.

My favourite place in Iceland…

Landmannalauger is a stunning region in Iceland’s highlands. It is renowned for its vibrant multi-coloured geology (rhyolitic mountains) and geothermal springs. Absolutely beautiful.

I also enjoy spending time in Akureyri, a pretty town in the North.
