Karen Corfield, Teacher Tour Leader

A bit about me…

I currently lead the Teacher Tour Leading team at DTWE, and work as an education consultant.

Previously I was a pastoral deputy and Head of Geography at both preparatory and secondary schools, with experience of KS3, GCSE, IB and A level geography teaching. I taught for over 20 years and am passionate about overseas educational opportunities.

I am involved in the writing and creating of itineraries to support the education and personal development of pupils in many countries including Iceland.

Why I love being a Teacher Tour Leader…

I am passionate about outdoor education, and Iceland – Iceland provides every aspect of geographical education. I absolutely love sharing this amazing country with pupils and seeing them grow in confidence and ability once geography is brought to life for them.

This role still gives me the opportunity to teach – in the most wonderful classroom in the world.

There is no better feeling than seeing students being blown away by the environment around them and learning how to enjoy, respect and be sustainable within it.

My favourite place in Iceland…

This changes regularly depending on who I am with and the time of year, but I really love Hveragerdi and the feeling I have in this lovely little town. I also love Husavik in the North and the Westman Islands in the South.
