What is the procedure for travelling to Argentina?

You’ll need to adhere to rules set by both the UK and Argentinian governments.

Before departing the UK

  • You will need to pre-order your test kit to take on Day 2 of your return to the UK. From 30 November 2021, this must be a PCR test. (Lateral flow tests will no longer be accepted). See section below ‘Where can I obtain test kits?’
  • If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 you will need to demonstrate this status on arrival in Argentina via the NHS COVID Pass.
We recommend you download the NHS COVID Pass as well as take a printed paper copy:

    • If you have a smart phone or tablet download the NHS patient App from the App Store or Google Play – please note this is NOT the NHS Covid-19 App. It is important to download this as soon as you book your holiday as it can take a while to register. Once the app is registered check that your vaccination status is fully up to date.
    • You can download a PDF from the NHS website to print.
  • Travellers must present a negative PCR Covid-19 test before boarding the flight to Argentina, which must be taken within 72 hours prior to departure. Discover the World will cover 50% (to a maximum of £34) of this test. Providers include Qured, Medicspot and C19. It is your choice and your responsibility which supplier you choose to use, but we would advise that you only use a test provider that is on the Gov.uk approved list.
  • You must complete a sworn declaration (filled out no more than 48 hours before arriving in Argentina) stating your vaccine status. This form is available at migraciones.gob.ar
  • You must also present evidence of travel insurance providing Covid-19 cover. We can recommend such a policy.

Upon arrival in Argentina

  • From 1 November, fully-vaccinated travellers from the UK can enter Argentina without having to quarantine provided you show proof of vaccination, negative PCR test results and travel insurance.
  • Passengers who have not been fully vaccinated must quarantine for 7 days in a designated hotel.

What is the procedure for travelling to Chile?

You’ll need to adhere to rules set by both the UK and Chilean governments.

Before departing the UK

  • You will need to pre-order your test kit to take on Day 2 of your return to the UK. From 30 November 2021, this must be a PCR test. (Lateral flow tests will no longer be accepted). See section below ‘Where can I obtain test kits?’
  • If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 you will need to demonstrate this status before arrival in Chile via mevacuno.gob.cl to obtain a mobility pass. Please be aware that validation could take up to 30 days and travellers cannot complete more than 45 days before their arrival to Chile.
  • Travellers must present a negative PCR Covid-19 test before boarding the flight to Chile, which must be taken within 72 hours prior to departure. Discover the World will cover 50% (to a maximum of £34) of this test. Providers include Qured, Medicspot and C19. It is your choice and your responsibility which supplier you choose to use, but we would advise that you only use a test provider that is on the Gov.uk approved list.
  • You must complete a sworn declaration (filled out no more than 48 hours before arriving in Chile) stating your vaccine status. On completion a QR code will be issued as verification. The form is available at www.c19.cl.
  • You must also present evidence of travel insurance providing Covid-19 cover. We can recommend such a policy.

Upon arrival in Chile

  • From 1 November, fully-vaccinated travellers from the UK can enter Chile without having to quarantine provided you show proof of vaccination and a negative PCR test result.
    • Accepted vaccines include Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen/Johnson & Johnson and those approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
  • Passengers who have not been fully vaccinated must quarantine for 7 days in a designated hotel.

What are the requirements on return to the UK?

  • You do need to take a test after you arrive in the UK on day two. From the 30 November this must be a PCR test and you must self-isolate in your home or the place you are staying until you receive your negative test result. You’ll need to book this before you travel. When you make your booking you should receive a test reference number. You will need this number to enter on to the online form that you need to complete before you return to the UK.
  • Discover the World will cover 50% (up to a maximum of £34) of the cost of this test for our clients.
  • You will also need to fill in an online form to provide your journey and contact details before your return journey. You cannot submit this form until 48 hours before your arrival time in the UK. You will need your test reference number to complete this form.

For full details and to see regional variations for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, visit https://www.gov.uk/uk-border-control.

What do I need to prepare when planning a trip to Antarctica with the current Covid-19 situation?

Before you travel, you should check the details of your travel insurance carefully to ensure that you are covered for Covid-19 illness should you be unable to travel, and the cover for any medical treatment abroad. Contact your insurer if you are uncertain. You may need to consider a specialist policy. We can recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that provides extensive Covid-19 cover for medical, cancellation and curtailment.

Have protocols been put in place for travel to Antarctica onboard ship?

We remain in close contact with our voyage operators, who have been working hard to implement a range of new measures to ensure protection against Covid-19 on board our expedition ships. Prior to any departure we will be able to provide the most up-to-date safety information and special protocols for your specific ship and voyage.

Is everything in Argentina and Chile open?

Yes, though social distancing and hand hygiene are advised.

Do I need to wear a face mask in Argentina or Chile?

Face masks are required in shops, restaurants and other indoor public spaces, though regional variations may apply.

What if my plans change?

In these unpredictable times our Flexibility Promise means you can book a trip knowing that should you need to change your plans you can. You can also keep track of the latest advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) via our Travel Updates page.
