Iconic hiking trails in Iceland
The 55km-long Laugavegur trail is one of the world’s greatest hiking routes. It takes you on an unforgettable journey from the geothermal hot springs of Landmannalaugar to the verdant glacial valley of Thorsmork, passing colourful mountain slopes, glaciers, lakes and rivers along the way.
In East Iceland, Borgarfjordur Eystri is riddled with superb hiking trails, including the surreal, boulder-strewn mountain valley of Storurd and the deserted coastal inlet of Brunavik.
In West Iceland, the Snaefellsnes Peninsula is also rich in hiking potential. Stride out along the cliffs between Arnarstapi and Hellnar for rock arches, blowholes and seabirds, or set your sights on the snowy slopes of the dormant volcano Snaefellsjokull.
