Funken Lodge, Longyearbyen

Introduction

With modern comfort in historic surroundings, Funken Lodge offers a unique Svalbard experience.

Originally known as Spitsbergen Hotel, it was first constructed in 1947 and built as an accommodation and dining area for employees of Store Norske Spitsbergen Coal Company. Its interior and architecture made it Longyearbyen’s grandest construction at the time.

In 2017 the process began to transform Spitsbergen Hotel into Funken Lodge. This included extensive changes to the public areas and guest rooms, with a focus on making it once again, the grandest building in Longyearbyen. Situated on “The Hill”, it gives you great views of Longyearbyen and the surrounding mountains and the Lars and Longyear glaciers.

Functionaermessen Restaurant boasts some of the best views in town as was listed as the best dining experience in Longyearbyen and number 19 in Norway – by the Nordic White Guide in 2016.
