Introduction
Kapiti Island Nature Lodge offers a comfortable stay and immersive wilderness experience in one of the world’s great conservation environments.
An internationally renowned nature sanctuary and marine reserve just 5km off the North Island’s west coast, Kapiti Island is home to many of New Zealand’s native birds, trees and wildlife. Whilst day visits to Kapiti are possible, an overnight stay on the island offers the chance to delve further into New Zealand’s rich natural world, with the chance to spot wild little spotted kiwi as well as a wealth of other endemic birdlife.
During your stay you will also have the chance to learn more about the traditions and culture of the local Maori iwi, who have inhabited this island for hundreds of years, and to explore the many walking trails through native bush to pristine shorelines.
A choice of accommodation options are available, from simple safari-style tents and cosy wooden cabins with shared bathroom facilities and a musical backdrop of native birdsong, to a classic Kiwi ‘bach’ style bungalow with ensuite facilities and stunning ocean views. Dining at Kapiti Island Nature Lodge is a boisterous, family affair where guides, relatives and guests join together for buffet-style meals, enjoying a menu that incorporates fresh local produce and kaimoana (seafood).
