Kirkenes Snowhotel

Introduction

Found in one of Norway’s most isolated and beautiful areas near Kirkenes in the far north, the Snowhotel is a work of art that is rebuilt every year and is one of the most unique places to spend the night.

Every room is like a small treasure, with beds framed with ice blocks and comfortable mattresses with thermal insulation keeping guests warm at night. Each room is decorated with sculptures and works of art made from ice and snow. Despite the chilly air, with the thermal sleeping bag to keep you warm, many guests find a night spend in the Kirkenes Snowhotel to be incredibly restful, due to the silence of this isolated setting.

You will be shown the facilities and how best to sleep on ice using the insulated sleeping bags and there are luggage facilities to store your bags. Before bed, a rustic Arctic dinner in Gabba restaurant is served around an open fire. The Icebar is exactly what it claims to be: a bar made entirely of ice and a marvellous place to sip fresh cocktails from a frigid glass.

In addition to the iconic Snowhotel there are also some very cosy cabins with a modern touch – underfloor heating, beautiful bathroom, lounge chairs covered with sheep skins to ensure a comfortable time while looking out the large panoramic window for the aurora. While staying overnight in these Gamme Cabins, the evening meal is included at Høyloftet Restaurant with a lovely view of the Langfjorden. Lunches can be purchased at the Gabba restaurant or included on some of the longer excursions.

A number of activities are available for those staying at the Kirkenes Snowhotel, including northern lights excursions, husky sledding, snowmobile trips, ice-fishing, show-shoeing and the famous King Crab safari.
