Overview

A former scientific-research vessel, the M/V Ortelius offers the classic small ship experience.

Maximum passengers: 108

Built in 1989, M/V Ortelius was designed as a special-purpose vessel for the Russian Academy of Science. Following a refurbishment she was re-named after Abraham Ortelius, publisher of the first modern world atlas. The vessel has the top level ice-class registration (1A) and is therefore very well suited to navigating the part-frozen waters of the polar regions.

Though voyages are primarily designed to offer an exploratory wildlife program with as much time ashore as possible, M/V Ortelius offers comfort and space to relax including a bar.

DTW team member, Charlotte, on a Polar cruise Stay trigger happy. The penguins and whales likes to keep us on our toes on an Antarctic Cruise, which means they can appear when you're least expecting it. Guides will announce a sudden sighting on the ship intercom but be prepared because they can happen when you're eating, taking a shower or fast asleep.
