The Great George, Charlottetown

Introduction

Originally built in 1846, the award-winning Great George holds the distinction of hosting some of the delegates from the 1864 Charlottetown Conference on Union, when PEI became the Birthplace of Confederation – founding Canada as we know it today. More than 120 years later, the hotel’s current owner purchased the property along with all the adjacent buildings in the street. The resulting restoration work has turned an entire city block into one grand hotel.

The Great George now comprises 17 carefully restored heritage buildings, housing 54 richly decorated suites and 6 independent dining establishments – this really is a hotel like no other. Accommodation options include traditional rooms, featuring local artwork and antiques, deluxe rooms with Jacuzzi and kitchen areas, and apartment-style units. Luxurious and historic, this fascinating hotel prides itself on top level service, ensuring an unforgettable stay.
