Introduction
A classic Canadian wilderness lodge, the historic Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is set on 60 acres of private land within Tweedsmuir Provincial Park. Originally built in 1929 as a hunting and fishing lodge, today the resort accommodates those seeking a more eco-friendly adventure within a relaxing retreat.
Accommodation
There are a total of 11 guest chalets on the property, accommodating between 2-4 people per unit. Most of the chalets (except for the Hillary and Cougar) are built surrounding a giant central lawn and have excellent views and lots of privacy, guaranteeing a serene setting for your holiday.
Facilities
The main lodge building is the central location for socialising. There is a large living room and dining room with river rock fireplace; a sports bar with billiards table, games and satellite TV; a retail shop; and a guest media room with computer access and fax/telephone service. In addition, there is complimentary WiFi access throughout the lodge, chalets and cabins.
In addition to the dedicated bear watching trips there is also a spectacularly located viewing platform, only 200m from the lodge. This platform is for the exclusive use of guests and affords fantastic views up and down the river where grizzly bears are often seen feeding on salmon in September and October.
Other activities at the lodge include guided fishing, guided nature walks, fjord and valley tours and heli-hiking.
Beyond the lodge
The surrounding environment is stunning. Rising above the valley floor are the majestic Coast Mountains, to the west is the largest fjord system in the Americas and to the east the high Chilcotin Plateau. It is a bio-diverse and spectacular wilderness, home to the totemic wildlife of the Great Bear Rainforest.
The lodge borders the Atnarko River and in the fall grizzly bears come down to feast on the spawning salmon. The best way to view the bears is to float the Atnarko River on a drift trip. The groups are small, the pace leisurely and all bear watching trips are led by an experienced and knowledgeable guide.
