Introduction

Travelling on the world famous TranzAlpine train, experience the spectacular Otira Gorge, the native forests, mountain vistas and the mighty Waimakariri River. View Cave Stream Reserve (Narnia country), Castle Hill Rocks and the high country on this privately guided tour. 

Journey from Christchurch across the wide expanses of the Canterbury Plains, and enter the high country surrounded by rugged mountain ranges. Head towards the spectacular Southern Alps and view the Waimakariri River and its unique braided riverbed system. Follow the old stage coach route and travel down the spectacular Otira Gorge and follow the route taken by the Maori in their quest for greenstone.

Experience the rugged and beautiful Arthur’s Pass National Park where short walks can be made to experience forests, rivers and mountain vistas. See the unique weatherworn rain smoothed outcrops of limestone known as Castle Hill rocks and search for the notorious Nestor notabilis; the endemic alpine parrot – Kea.
